About

Shannon Johnston Howes is an illustrator and designer based in Cambridge, UK, focused on publication design, analogue processes, and photography. In July 2020 Shannon was selected as one of the D&AD New Blood Awards Ones to Watch.

A lifelong enthusiasm for art and storytelling lead her to study Illustration at London Metropolitan University's School of Art, Architecture & Design, having been a member of Studio Ink, specialising in publishing and design, and Studio 2, focused on narrative and storytelling.

Between 2018 and 2019 she was involved with London Metropolitan University's interdepartmental project Anthology III, as an illustrator and a member of the design team that took the final book to print.

In 2019, she created the zine Our Ladies Of Horror, fueled by a love of slasher cinema and an interest in gender dynamics within the genre.
This project and love of Horror continued to influence her work, with a Final Major Project based on horror movie posters, and a dissertation looking at the roles of mothers in horror films.

Since graduating, she has published a further 7 publications, the most recent being a tandem release of Issue 4 and a Villains themed Special Edition of Our Ladies Of Horror.
